 This basic fly tying course is designed to introduce the beginning fly tyer to the methods, materials, and tools used in this most enjoyable hobby. It is the aim of the instructor to teach you at least 2 different flies per session. We will start off with some basic, simple streamer flies and advance to more complex patterns as the course progresses. You will receive instructions on such flies as the Red and White, Mickey Finn, Wardens Worry and a little history on the origin of these and other time honored flies. Nothing beats the thrill of catching a fish on a fly you, yourself, have tied! The instructor will provide “kits”, at a nominal cost ($2.00- $5.00), consisting of materials such as hooks, feathers, tinsel, chenille, etc. for those that need them. From these kits you will be able to tie at least 6 flies of the patterns we will be tying each session. That translates to at least sixteen patterns and a total of at least ninetysix flies for the entire course. Although this is a beginning tying course, all skill levels are more than welcome. Be the person who makes a difference to a neighbor and their family as the face end of life issues: become a Beacon Hospice Volunteer. This free 21 hour, 7 week training will prepare you to support patients and their families. Led by the volunteer coordinator, out team of registered nurse case managers, licensed clinical social workers, clergy and bereavement specialists will proved the information tools you will need to provide compassionate support for our patients and their families. You will learn the history and philosophy of hospice, medial issues at the end of life including pain and symptom management, communication, family dynamics, gref, loss and spiritual care. Once you complete the course, you decide how best how to serve the hospice community. Hospice volunteer work is not about a patient’s demise, it is about their LIVING!

CERTIFIED RESIDENTIAL MEDICATION AIDE

A 40-hour course designed to teach Residential Care Workers to administer selected non-injectable medications in a Licensed Residential Care or Group Home setting. The course provides the basic understanding needed to administer medications and to document safely and accurately. The course covers State of Maine regulations, standard residential facility policies, basic anatomy and physiology, common medications in the majority of drug classes, and the practice of safe medication administration procedures. Once enrolled, participants must complete all classroom and clinical components, without exception. Mock med passes are completed as part of the classroom experience. In addition, participants are required to perform 3 med passes supervised by an RN in a clinical setting. Documentation of these med passes is due within 45 days of the completion of the course. It is important for the CRMA to understand exactly what the roles and responsibilities of this position include.
